Mystic Powerboats to Debut Model in Miami
The new Mystic M3900 is their first “luxury performance” model.

Mystic Powerboats principal John Cosker and Pier 57 Marine’s Scott Sjogren started discussions on a new center console during the 2014 Miami International Boat Show, so it only seems fitting that the new model, called the M3900, will debut at the 2015 Miami event in February. Cosker and Sjogren had discussed unveiling the boat as early as this year, but rather than showcasing a “mocked-up” model they wanted to be sure they could deliver a finished product.

While the M3900 is still in its sea trial and setup stages, Cosker said he’s delighted with the results of the project, which began six months ago.
Several orders have already been placed for the 39-footer, according to Sjogren. His dealership—Pier 57—is the global dealer for the new Mystic M3900, as well as a dealer of pre-owned models from various manufacturers.
Although the M3900 is the first luxury performance center console Cosker has designed for his own DeLand, Fla.-based company, he has been involved in the design of more than 15 performance-oriented center consoles including models from Concept, Contender, Deep Impact and Midnight Express. A formally trained naval architect, he has more than 25 years of powerboat design experience.
“The first generation of performance boaters have shifted in focus when it comes to demand from boating manufacturers,” Cosker said in a press release from Mystic. “During the last four or five years, new boat construction and general interest trends have followed the economy, and the boating lifestyle has been altered because of it. Now, there is a higher demand for not only sport boats that carry higher cruising speeds, but models that offer safety and luxury, and are family-friendly as well.”
While the M3900 is still in its sea trial and setup stages, Cosker said he’s delighted so far with the results of the project, which began six months ago.
“The boat runs fantastically,” he said. “It’s reliable and effortless at 70 mph.”
Mystic also has finalized pricing for the new model but is not yet ready to release the final figures, according to Pier 57 Marine’s Sjogren.
“We know what the price will be but we’re not ready to release it yet,” said Sjogren. “We want to make it easy for the consumer so we’re not going to offer a lot of options. Bluetooth compatibility, LED lighting in the cockpit, underwater lights, touchscreen electronics, ship-to-shore radio—all of those features will be standard. Options will be limited to thing such as radar, teak flooring and power.” (The base-priced 39-footer will be outfitted with triple 300-hp Mercury Marine Verado outboard engines.)
Pressed for more pricing detail, Sjogren declined to provide specifics. “I can tell you that it will be somewhere between the Nor-Tech 390 and the 42 MTI center consoles,” he said.
Sjogren said that he and Mystic principal John Cosker believe they know which custom performance companies will provide competition for the new Mystic, and that Mystic will be competing with builders other than those from the go-fast boat realm. “Let’s just say that Intrepid is a really good company,” he said. But he and Cosker are more focused on capturing customers than competing with specific brands. He also revealed that plans for Mystic’s next V-bottom—a larger center console—have been finalized.
“Our next model will be significantly bigger—another luxury performance center console is where we see the market going,” said Sjogren. “And in less than three years, we think we will see our first 100-mph center console.”
